What our client's say
Honestly, I was skeptical and thought it might be more encouragement to do kegels. It has been anything but that. I saw improvements in my life almost immediately. Dana thoroughly explained how the pelvic floor is designed to work and then gave me exercises that ranging from breathing to core engagement and many other things in between. I feel so hopeful now and no longer need to know where the nearest restroom is at all times. I am especially enjoying being able to exercise again without planning it around a restroom break. Very thankful I took a chance on this. Highly recommend to anyone who’s quality of life feels diminished because of poor pelvic Floor health!

I wish I knew about this immediately postpartum. I was like most moms who pees themselves when jumping or sneezing too hard. After 10 sessions with Dana, I feel like a new woman. I ran on the treadmill, played volleyball and had a cold with some aggressive coughing and sneezing without any issues! I’m seriously amazed and cannot recommend enough. Dana was professional and knowledgeable and worked to address both pelvic floor issues and my diastasis recti.

After only 4 sessions I am already seeing significant improvement for all of my pelvic floor issues. Dana is incredibly knowledgeable and understanding. Every session is different because she listens to what your body needs to allow for a highly tailored treatment plan. I would recommend anyone looking for pelvic floor PT to Functional Phyzio and cannot thank Dana enough for all of the guidance and support!
Hannah Willis
I came to Functional Phyzio with an injured hip. Dana performed a thorough assessment of my body and my history to create a personalized treatment plan that empowered me with a toolkit of exercises and techniques that really helped me resolve my injury quickly. Honing in on how my pelvic floor influences my hip function was really insightful. My portal has videos showing me how to perform the movements we discussed, which is such a great resource. Dry needling has also helped relieve tension in various parts of my body. The portal also provides an easy interface for appointment scheduling. I’ve really enjoyed working with this practice.

What our clients are saying

- Kristi
“Dr. Norah and her team are the best! I came to her with what I thought was pelvic floor issues. She used a holistic approach to find out I was misdiagnosed for over twenty years! She not only worked with me during appointments together, but gave me so many tools and techniques to continue on my own. Was hesitant at first because of pricing, but would do it 1000 times over. So worth it and I’m forever grateful”

- Caitlin
“Norah was extremely helpful with pelvic floor therapy after I had my second c-section. She was able to work with me and provide me with workouts to do at home to help build my strength back.”

-Al
“I had been dealing with pelvic floor issues for 3 years and seeing different types of doctors and therapists. Norah has used a truly holistic approach to help me recover. She has prescribed exercises with focused precision to work on global issues affecting my body that contributed to the pelvic floor dysfunction as well as conducted specific treatments directly impacting the pelvic floor and hip region. I feel more resilient now than I have in a long time”
What Does a Session Look Like?
Your first session will start with a comprehensive evaluation that includes a thorough medical and injury history. Next, your Doctor of Physical Therapy will take you through a movement exam which includes strength testing and a joint specific mobility assessment. Depending on your specific issues an internal pelvic floor muscle assessment may be recommended, however this is ALWAYS up to you and we will never force you into an examination or treatment technique you do not feel comfortable with. Finally, you will be thoroughly educated on exactly what is causing & contributing to your issues and your Physical therapist will lay out your individualized plan of care.
Follow up sessions are patient specific but may include hands on work to help relieve pain and restore better movement. This includes treatments such as dry needling, cupping, soft tissue mobilization, active release or myofascial work. You will also be taken through specific exercises to retrain your movement patterns and build strength.
FAQs
Pelvic floor physical therapy is performed by a physical therapist with additional specialized training in the pelvic floor. While we look at your overall strength & movement patterns, we can also perform specific assessments of the pelvic floor and put all the pieces together.
Nope! While performing an internal vaginal and / or rectal assessment gives us information about what exactly is going on at your pelvic floor, this is completely up to you. We will never force you to do something you aren’t comfortable with.
YES! There is still a ton that can be done for treatment even if you don’t want to do an internal assessment.
